Ridgewood is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens. It borders the neighborhoods of Maspeth, Middle Village and Glendale, as well as the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Bushwick and East Williamsburg. Historically, the neighborhood straddled the Queens-Brooklyn boundary. Large parts of the neighborhood are national and city historic districts.

The neighborhood is bordered by Queens Midtown Expressway to the north, Glendale to the east, East Williamsburg to the west, and Bushwish to the southwest. The main commercial strip runs along Fresh Pond Rd which splits into Fresh Pond Rd further going south and Cypress Hills St traveling southeast after 69th Ave.

Ridgewood is zoned for many uses, but is primarily a commercial area along main streets and a residential neighborhood along side streets. Much of the neighborhood is a residential historic district. To the south of the neighborhood lies the Cemetery Belt. The majority of the neighborhood is dominated by a large hill formed by the glacial moraine that created Long Island, which begins at Metropolitan Avenue and rises steeply for about two blocks before gently sloping down. For instance, at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish on 60th Place, the front entrance of the church is almost level with the second floor of the Parish school next door. The area around the Linden Hill Cemetery, centered around Flushing and Metropolitan Avenues, used to be called Linden Hill, which is different from the neighborhood of Linden Hill in Flushing, Queens. This part of Ridgewood is named Linden Street. New York’s largest mutual savings bank, Ridgewood Savings Bank, is located in Ridgewood. The company’s headquarters are situated at the intersection of Myrtle and Forest avenues.

In Ridgewood 10 national historic districts were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983: 68th Avenue-64th Place Historic District, Central Ridgewood Historic District, Cornelia-Putnam Historic District, Cypress Avenue East Historic District
Cypress Avenue West Historic District, Fresh Pond-Traffic Historic District, Madison-Putnam-60th Place Historic District, Seneca Avenue East Historic District, Stockholm-DeKalb-Hart Historic District, and Summerfield Street Row Historic District.
