Huntington Country Club

Huntington Country Club is a private, member-owned club located on Long Island’s North Shore midway between Huntington Village and Cold Spring Harbor. 144 acres of land, which presently comprise the Club and its grounds, were acquired in 1910 by a group of nationally and locally prominent industrialists, financiers, and philanthropists and their associates. To meet the needs of a growing and increasingly prosperous community, they wanted to build a first-class golf course, along with other recreational facilities: a golf course that they and future generations of members could be proud of.

In order to achieve this vision, Devereux Emmet, a noted golf course architect, was commissioned to design and supervise the construction of an 18 hole golf course on “this beautiful setting, with its natural mounds, deep valleys, and inequality of grades, so coveted and valued by golf enthusiasts.”

The course stands today as a splendid testament to that early vision, thanks to its exceptional maintenance. Over the years, the Club has added more recreational amenities to meet the needs and interests of its members. These include four Har-Tru tennis courts, a five court platform tennis facility, the former and future home of the American Platform Tennis Association National Championships, and an affiliated Winter Club with an attractive ice skating and hockey complex. The Huntington Country Club has a proud history of excellence in recreation. The next generation of members is setting the highest standards for recreational facilities, amenities, programming, and service.

Additionally, the club features a driving range and practice putting green, as well as a fully stocked pro shop. The Club has hosted a number of local and national golf tournaments, including two Long Island Junior Opens, numerous Nassau County Men’s Championships, the Eastern Women’s Amateur Championships, and the 2002 American Platform Tennis Association National Championships.

The Club’s dining facilities are acclaimed throughout Long Island for their excellent cuisine and gracious service in seating up to 230 guests in comfort and elegance. In fact, three generations of families have been known to dine together at Huntington Country Club on special occasions such as Thanksgiving Dinner and a lot more.

The Club provides a unique recreational resource for its 625 member families and their guests. It is one of the finest recreational facilities on Long Island, recognized region-wide as a premier private country club. The Club’s recreational amenities are available to members at no additional charge. The tennis programs attract many of Long Island’s top-ranked players as well as those who value the Club for recreational and social reasons. In addition, Huntington Country Club is an excellent golf course. It offers a fine 18 hole championship level round on every day of the week—something very few private clubs can boast.

The Huntington Country Club was established in 1910 with the following mission statement: “To promote golf, tennis, and other games, provide sociability and amusement to its members, and facilitate their pursuit of health and pleasure.” Those objectives still hold true today as they did then. It remains an essential part of the fabric of the community; a place to enjoy sports and recreation with families, old and new; a place to forget the worries of the world and enjoy the friendly company of fellow members.
